Na estética japonesa, ma (間) é o intervalo que torna possível a relação entre as coisas. É o entre, o espaço de continuidade e de sentido de onde emerge a experiência.

Esta é mais uma série sobre Estrasburgo, agora sobre as suas formas urbanas modernas e contemporâneas, as que nascem nos intervalos de uma cidade monumental. A paisagem herdada é forte e reconhecível. A catedral gótica e o casario medieval da Grande Île, a monumentalidade da Neustadt construída sob administração alemã entre 1871 e 1918. Sobre esse fundo, a cidade continua a ser escrita, e as arquiteturas recentes acrescentam-lhe camadas.

A série olha os detalhes dos edifícios e as relações que eles estabelecem com o que os rodeia. As geometrias, as superfícies, a luz, a matéria. Nos fragmentos, uma forma recente encontra a cidade herdada. O interesse está em como tempos diferentes passam a coexistir, produzindo uma paisagem em construção permanente.

São fotografias da cidade para além dos seus monumentos mais reconhecidos. Entre o antigo e o contemporâneo, cada forma nova convive com a que veio antes.

In Japanese aesthetics, ma (間) is the interval that makes the relation between things possible. It is the in-between, the space of continuity and meaning from which experience emerges.

This is another series about Strasbourg, now about its modern and contemporary urban forms, the ones that arise in the intervals of a monumental city. The inherited landscape is strong and recognizable. The Gothic cathedral and the medieval houses of the Grande Île, the monumentality of the Neustadt built under German administration between 1871 and 1918. Against that backdrop, the city continues to be written, and recent architectures add layers to it.

The series looks at the details of buildings and the relations they establish with what surrounds them. The geometries, the surfaces, the light, the matter. In the fragments, a recent form meets the inherited city. The interest lies in how different times come to coexist, producing a landscape in permanent construction.

These are photographs of the city beyond its most recognized monuments. Between the old and the contemporary, each new form coexists with the one that came before.
